Natura 2000

Natura 2000 is the centrepiece of EU nature and biodiversity policy and it is ecological network of protection areas. This areas were established under the 1979 Birds Directive and the 1992 Habitats Directive. The aim of this protective areas is to assure the long-term survival of Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitats. Under Birds Directive Member States designate Special Protection Areas (SPAs) und under Habitats Directive they disignated Special Areas of Conservation (SAC).

Goričko is Special Protection Area for 14 bird species and Special Area of Conservation for 24 species from Habitats Directive.
